Abstract: This chapter presents the results of a study conducted between March and May of 2020 on the role conflicts of the modern Bulgarian woman. It focuses in particular on the work-family clash, which arose in the context of the covid-19 pandemic and the economic crisis. It addresses the effects of social isolation on women’s personal and professional development and social roles.

The analysis focuses on the following topics:

– The modern woman between family and work and the influence of the conditions of crisis – problems and compromises.

– Values, beliefs and attitudes of men and women towards family and work – patterns of behaviour in conditions of social isolation.

– The main reasons for (not) achieving a harmonious reconciliation of family and professional roles.

– Generational belonging as a factor in family and career fulfilment.

– The three forms of learning (formal, non-formal and informal) as a factor in career development during the pandemic.

Keywords: family – career – role conflicts – development of women
